Camping for Burt's Birthday

So... for Burt's birthday we went to see his family in Valdosta.
A nearby FL state park that we had wanted to check out was all booked but we found out that Moody AFB had a campground only 8 miles from his grandmother's place.
It has RV sites with 20 / 30 / 50 amp, water, sewer, (slow but free) wi- fi, and cable - all for $16 a night! (oh yeah, they have cheap cabins for rent too..) It was not very busy because it is restricted to military and DoD, but we can sponsor other people in. Sweet.
We will be back.

Yumm... too bad it's CG

I actually found this pic a while ago and have kept it forever. I almost want to taste it.. Listen folks - this is a totally faked pic. Coke never made a bacon flavor, but I wish I knew who made this, because they sure did a good job. Remember that next time you see some "real" fantastic pics.

Meet Grover! (the new family member)

Ok, so I have not posted in a while.. a lot going on!

I snuck a new critter into the fish tank and this one is a silly, little, animated, and BLUE monster. So I named him Grover. Here he is being fearsome:

He is a Crayfish / Crawdad / Miniature Lobster. He has the two big pinching claws and 2 pair of teeny tiny claws on his next two sets of legs. He uses these to pick up food and it's kinda funny because I don't think he can see under there. He has two more pair of legs and he is missing a foot on one of them, but he sure is able to climb around just fine!

Grover is also up to some antics. I transferred one of the Lilly plants from the frog tank into the big tank. A few hours later he had dug it up and was riding around on it as it floated at the top of the tank!

According to http://www.bluecrayfish.com/ there are MANY species of blue Crayfish and apparently they can even be white.

No more Jungle!!

Soo.. here is the front door.. notice you can see the windows!

And here is the side of the house. The meter reader can now safely approach. We also uncovered a water faucet on that front corner!

Still left to do:
  • pressure wash the sides of the house
  • fix the fence
  • plant grass seed

We took 2 and a half super loaded trailer loads to the other house to be burned with the other pine limbs. Fun, fun!

Toby saves a stick from the fire.

So here is a WONDERFUL picture. It has one of the smaller piles of trees/shrubs/jungle cuttings on fire; it has my sweet thoughtful sweety pie; and it has silly Toby with a stick he claimed for himself to play with. A wonderful 1,000 words:

ICKY EEWW !!!! (tick on Toby's butt)

Sooo.. I found one of THESE icky nasty things on Toby's butt, right under his tail, but it was a little more of a brown color... and I thought it was a piece of poop. It is a tick nymph, or baby. What the hell is a baby tick doing this size?!? I used toilet paper (still thinking it was poop because from the top you could not see the legs) and it came off pretty easily for a tick, but it did take a decent little chunk of skin with it. Poor puppy.

When I realized the thing was alive and I did not recognize it, I had to look it up on the iternet of course. Then I had to share. Enjoy your nightmares!

Yard BEFORE pics

I forgot to bring the camera, so these were taken with my cell phone. I hired a couple teenagers to help with the cleanup.

Believe it or not, there is a window behind that tree. I had already started cutting a few branches but you could not get to the front door without being attacked by branches.

This is the side. behind those bushes it's very difficult to get to the electric meter or cable or other stuff back there. The fence is torn up and the jungle beyond is also overgrown.

Krazy Kool-aid Pickles?!?! AKA Koolickles

umm.. Now I have to experiment.. great.. ;-)

If you click on the title above you go to Mac & Cheese Review blog's review of dill pickles that have been re-pickled in Kool-Aid.

Apparently even Alton Brown made some of these.. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89128508

B brought up the idea of pickling them the first time with Kool-Aid from scratch. I'll post again if I get brave and ambitious enough to try it.

Yummy Thoughts!
